Most people assume that vegan diets fail and cause people to become scrawny, emaciated, asexual, anemic, thin-haired, bloated, and frigid because it lacks animal products. Or protein. I’m not so sure. While we do seem to have a biological need for animal-sourced nutrients like vitamin B-12, and a big deficiency there will certainly cause some issues, my suspicions on why vegan diets (and all diets) so often yield a host of problems and symptoms lie elsewhere… I have recently had the pleasure of working with a young guy in the vegan vlogging vurld. Yeah I know, that only narrows it down to several thousand vegans who like to celebrate their awesomeness in video format. He’s a really good kid, smart, honest, and has had great success with weight loss (obviously, it’s very difficult NOT to… Read more »

Eating Disorder Recovery
This is a quick follow-up post to my last article on the big fat loss secret. After a full year of doing a great deal of one-on-one phone conversations, I keep wanting to share some of the calls. I get some really interesting cases, and I often find myself wanting to start recording some of the really good calls and publish them for a general audience to listen to. They really are that interesting, and the lessons often strongly reiterate some of the basic messages of 180DegreeHealth. I haven’t recorded any calls yet, and I don’t know if that’s something I’ll actually do, but I thought I could at least share some of the things that I discussed with Coldmember – a 20-year old Dutch kid that ran into serious health trouble after pursuing extreme body composition… Read more »
Fat Loss Secret
Everybody wants to know the secret to fat loss. Today, I’m going to reveal it using one of the people I talk to via my Get Help program as an example. I will not show this young gentleman’s face or reveal his name. We will call him Coldmember. He’s Dutch. Age 20. On the left you can see his impressive and very inspiring before and multiple after shots. Now that’s what I call ripped! He attained much of this “physique improvement,” in a nutshell, by cycling up and down in bodyweight while doing lots of resistance training/weight training. He would bulk up and build as much mass and strength as possible, and then reduce calories as little as was required to get slowly and steadily leaner. It was a good strategy. Slow, steady, and smart. At one… Read more »
Pee Freelea and Couchrider
Please bear with my sick sense of humor, but Pip and I did a short spoof of the 80-10-10 raw vegans Durianrider and Freelea of 30bananasaday.com. What’s wild is that the information in this video is pretty accurate. That is Pip’s actual age, she has lost a lot of weight since starting to work with Challen 6 months ago, she does no structured exercise and hasn’t for a decade. I asked her yesterday how many days out of 7 in a week she ate ice cream as she was achieving the body she currently has (which is much leaner than she was when we were living in Hawaii together and she was eating semi-raw Paleo). Her answer… 7. I too am getting lean quickly on Challen’s program, with no exercise… Read more »
Eating Order
In a recent post I promised I would cease poking fun at various dietary cults out there (temporarily of course) and lay some firm ground rules in a post called “Eating Order.” I’ve spent an entire day laboriously chipping away at the idea, but unfortunately, my octopus-like mind has managed to outsmart itself. Originally I had grand ideas – ideas like having a healthy relationship with food means making food choices based on what you know nourishes you. Sounds good right? I mean, if you know a certain food causes your body to react in a negative way, then eating it due to some social pressure or something like that is an unhealthy relationship with food, people, and yourself. But how is one to really know such a thing? I… Read more »
Fat vs. Fruit
Recently I’ve been trying to take it easy on my friend fruit. For years I’ve advocated an entirely sugar-free approach to overcoming certain health problems, and when my diet was very high in fat, fruit was a major aggravator of health issues – like tooth pain, them little tongue bump things, emotional irrationality, joint pain, allergies, asthma, and fat gain – and zits too. Aurora’s response is identical, only worse on many of those fronts. Same for dozens of others that I’ve had these discussions with. However, my past experiences with fruit weren’t necessarily congruent with my newer, more recent condemnations of fruit. For example, in 2005 I did all kinds of “cleanses” and forever improved my health doing so. These cleanses were based primarily around sweet fruits, fruit-only smoothies,… Read more »
