Binge eating after low-carb diet

FUMP Day 6

I’m noticing some really strange symptoms all of the sudden. The tips of my ears are slightly pointed. This seems really odd. Just came out of nowhere. In addition to that, I’m noticing a few hairs growing in on my forehead. It’s the weirdest thing. But strangest of all is that I saw a friend of mine today, and instead of giving him a normal greeting I just couldn’t resist the urge to sniff his hiney. I’m a, I’m a… OOOWWWWWolfman!!!!! Ha, ha. Okay I did have a little bit of headache today, but all else seems Jim Dandy. Even running up this big hill didn’t noticeably make my heart pound, which is a first since my FUMParoodling began. FUMP Day 4

Things are starting to go really well. My skin is phenomenally clear and moist. The fluttering heartbeat that often accompanies a big shift like this is gone. In fact, my resting pulse was back to normal – low enough to set off the “minimum” alarm on a heart rate monitor. I have little body odor, no morning breath, my hair has softened, my eyes are clearing, my tongue has fantastic color (although I’m noticing a very small V appearing in the back of the tongue – Acupuncturists feel free to drop some knowledge in the comments section). It’s amazing to me how some of the most important realizations that I’ve come to over the past year have come from fragments of information obtained from some really misguided people. One of the biggest discoveries was differentiating between how complex starches and simple sugars affect the human body, shown to me by Terry Shintani, the author of a book touting an extremely low fat vegan diet. Through his work, he was able to show that complex starches leave sugar in the blood to be used as fuel, unlike simple sugars from fruit, cookies, breakfast cereals and the like, which causes insulin to rise higher than the level of blood sugar and induce hypoglycemia. The integrity and insight of the old nutrition classics never ceases to amaze me when I manage to track them down. The work of Weston A. Price is groundbreaking. Francis Pottenger, Jr. had some legendary insights into human health and nutrition. Stefansson looked into human health from a much wiser and broader perspective than the authors on the shelves at your local, intellectually-crippling Barnes and Noble. However, after everything I’ve come across, I must say that Major-General Sir Robert McCarrison, C.I.E., M.A., M.D., D.Sc., LL.D., F.R.C.P., B.AO., born March 15th in 1878, is probably the greatest contributor to the understanding of human health that I have seen or can even imagine. Digestive Cleanse

Cleanses of all kinds exist in the far reaches of alternative nutrition, made well-known to the public by people like the Braggs and Kevin Trudeau. Some of the first nutritional experiments I ever tried could be defined as cleanses, and I can’t argue to the apparent health boost that I received from them. The subject of cleansing is a tough one. It’s something that I go back and forth on for sure as evidenced in this previous edition. Although many people take cleansing to extremes, and there are gentler, more logical approaches to improving your diet and lifestyle, a routine of brief digestive cleanses is probably a great habit to get into. For all males of my generation, this title should conjure up memories of Patrick Swayze and Keanu in Body Glove wetsuits, being crushed by gnarly waves. For everyone else, don’t worry about it. In October I devoured Good Calories Bad Calories by Gary Taubes, a nutritional masterpiece of sorts, but I’ve yet to share much of the beauty of this book. It is one of the most intelligently written books I’ve ever encountered. Nowhere does it repeat the rhetoric of today’s McNutrition. It seeks, quite objectively, the truth about what causes obesity, type II Diabetes, heart disease, and many of the other most common degenerative illnesses of modern man. With well over 100 pages of references alone, it is one of the most thoroughly researched mainstream books on any subject. Yes it pains me to steer away from my preoccupation with Britney and title something after an Olivia Newton John song, but hey, sometimes these things have to be done. This week’s topic is exercise, an essential piece of the total health experience. I’ve dabbled in many forms of exercise at varying intensity levels – ranging from 13-hour bike rides over mountain passes pulling a 50-pound trailer to 15-minute stretching sessions. We are drowning in what I call ‘nutritional minutiae.’ There is an endless stream of breaking news about such and such phytonutrient’s cancer-preventing properties, the latest antioxidant ‘discovery’ and on and on and on. On top of all that, there is a relentless fuss over pesticides, GMO’s, soy estrogens, and more. And then mainstream nutritionists focus on vitamins and minerals as if that’s the only thing that matters when it comes to health. Oh and then there are enzymes in raw food.
