The 80-10-10 Diet (811rv)

Posted

In the world of health and nutrition, there is not much out there that is wackier than Doug Graham’s self-fabricated 80-10-10 raw vegan diet. Don’t get me wrong. I have actually been positively influenced by the diet in some ways, and have reviewed all of Doug Graham’s materials as well as that of many of his even wackier disciples – including Durianrider of http://www.30bananasaday.com/ as well as Fred Patenaude (this guy actually appears to be sane), Michael Arnstein, Adam Panetta (kinda cool), and a handful of others. Heck, I’ve even watched a few videos by the Raw Brahs. They helped me to overcome my fruit phobia, which has proven to be a plus in my own personal healthscapades as of late. The incorporation of absurd quantities of calorie-rich fruit and… Read more »

Fat vs. Fruit

Posted

Recently I’ve been trying to take it easy on my friend fruit. For years I’ve advocated an entirely sugar-free approach to overcoming certain health problems, and when my diet was very high in fat, fruit was a major aggravator of health issues – like tooth pain, them little tongue bump things, emotional irrationality, joint pain, allergies, asthma, and fat gain – and zits too. Aurora’s response is identical, only worse on many of those fronts. Same for dozens of others that I’ve had these discussions with. However, my past experiences with fruit weren’t necessarily congruent with my newer, more recent condemnations of fruit. For example, in 2005 I did all kinds of “cleanses” and forever improved my health doing so. These cleanses were based primarily around sweet fruits, fruit-only smoothies,… Read more »

FUDA Conclusions

Nice work to those who voted on Monday’s post, It’s Over! You guys are sharp cookies. The vast majority of you chose the correct answer on both of the polls.  For starters, the meal that sent my glucose levels the highest was not the uber high-carb meal in which I ate all of it without fat or meat. It was, indeed, the meal which combined it all and also contained refined sugar and starch. Surprise, surprise. I can say with absolute certainty though, that going vegan for two weeks did throw off my glucose response, but apparently only for that first meal. Despite getting my glucose up to the 176 level by stuffing myself silly – and boy was I more full than I normally would be on a similar… Read more »

Summer Recap Part II

Posted

Well, I’m not going to totally go off on my summer diet. I did want to give a few basic details for all those interested. For the first time in several years, I did decide to experiment with a little ice cream. I chose Haagen Daz because of the short ingredient list and lack of indigestible substances such as Guar Gum, Carageenan, and/or Xanthan Gum. On my days off I would intentionally do a high-calorie day like that recommended by Scott Abel. It may have helped me maintain muscle mass, just like Season 2 in which I ate a half dozen doughnuts for breakfast every day, but the idea overall was probably pretty dumb – especially using ice cream, a food that I’ve known to be my primary nemesis for over… Read more »
