Sarcopenia

By Matt Stone I’ve been thinking a lot about aging lately.  My grandfather, age 87 and my last living grandparent, ain’t doin’ so hot.  And yes, he’s old.  He’s falling to pieces.  He’s going to eventually die.  I’m not fighting that, and tend to look at whether it happens now or several months or even years from now as pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.  Sure, he’ll miss a few golf tournaments and football games on tv, but from this point forward it doesn’t really matter when the big day arrives.  The world will go on whether he is alive to watch The O’Reilly Factor or not (Yeah I know that’s kinda mean, but he’s at the bedridden diaper stage – the stage where most people promise themselves… Read more »

Improve Insulin Sensitivity

Posted

In 180 Degree Diabetes: Preventing and Reversing Insulin Resistance, Metabolic Syndrome, and Type 2 Diabetes – I reveal some bold and daring information about reversing insulin resistance and thus lowering fasting and postprandial (post-meal) blood sugar readings.  It’s bold and daring because my core recommendation for improving insulin sensitivity flies in the face of every single belief held in all fields of both mainstream and alternative health, medicine, fitness, and nutrition.  Those recommendations include: 1) Eating more saturated fat, and less polyunsaturated fat.2) Eating more calories.3) Eating lots of carbohydrates, but trying to eat mostly high-glycemic carbohydrates.4) Not exercising at all (not for everyday health per se, but as part of a targeted strategy for improving insulin sensitivity in a short amount of time). And that’s just the beginning.  I also… Read more »

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Posted

While consuming lots of raw milk, and no cooked foods whatsoever, it figures that ol’ Aajonus Vonderplanitz would have come up in the comments section. And he did. Big time. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Aajonus, consider yourself lucky. Aajonus is one hell of a weird dude, and some of the most outlandish and perverse things I’ve encountered people doing were done per the advice of this first degree diet Guru. Everything from eating rotten meat and feces to drinking your own urine or using semen as a topical cream. Thanks Aajonus. Sorry no “facials” or “fecials” for me bro.  (BTW, Aajonus claims to have once consumed nothing but his own urine for 41 straight days – and complained of having bad breath during it – ya… Read more »

3 Words of Wisdom for 2010

Posted

It’s almost time for a New Year.  Instead of going on a verbose rampage, searching my soul for wisdom and inspiration to impart upon the 180 cult, I give you simply a gift that was given to me this Christmas by my 7-year old niece.  She knows her Uncle Matt well.  Thanks little Abby Dunlop.  Can’t wait to eat something off of it. This is the top side of the plate…  And this is the glorious bottom…

Vegan Aftermath

Posted

My experiences after going on a two-week vegan escapade couldn’t be more reaffirming of the general conclusions that I’ve come to over my several years of study. It’s certainly worth sharing and pondering now that I’ve had some time to let the whole experience digest. Although I certainly enjoyed stirring things up in the low-carb community, pointing out many of the ways in which low-carb dogma is an oversimplification of human biology, I am left with little doubt that damage is done while pursuing vegan diets. Of course, I haven’t doubted this for years – and have relegated such diets to short-term fasts at the most. But consider my typical dieter’s consequences after doing the nutritarian-vegan thing: 1) It took me 14 days to lose 5.5 pounds, and 6 days… Read more »
