Hey everybody.  Don’t be concerned if you are on the 180D mailing list and have recently received (or soon receive) a message out of the blue requesting that you confirm your email subscription.  By SPAM laws this must be done.  There have been horrendous problems with our old and outdated email service provider (Hell, I don’t even receive the email updates I send out to the list!), and we have just upgraded to AWeber, which is considered to be the most reliable. Apologies for everyone who has been trying to access the Starter Kit recently with no luck.  I just updated it with some new info. at the end, with 5 very basic yet very effective tips for increasing metabolic rate.  This is great for those who don’t have the time… Read more »

Starch Lowers Insulin

Can you eat potatoes on the paleo diet

“It is of interest that diets high in fibre-rich cereals and tuberous vegetables tend to result in an improvement in basal blood glucoses.” p. 281 Burkitt, Denis, Hugh Trowell, and Kenneth Heaton.  Dietary Fibre, Fibre-Depleted Foods and Disease.  Academic Press:  London, 1985. It is a common belief that starch, or any type of carbohydrate – particularly high-glycemic starches like potatoes, raises insulin.  In the low-carb circles you see the idea floating around that carbohydrate ingestion raises glucose, which in turn raises insulin.  Insulin increases fat storage, therefore carbohydrates make you fat and are the cause of the obesity epidemic. Gross oversimplifications that the human mind can easily grasp are always popular – regardless of the what the oversimplifications are intended to explain.  In the health sphere, they are prevalent.  The carbs =… Read more »

Silly Wabbit, Atkins is NOT for Kids!

Posted

I received this email just the other day.  It is a beauty.  There were so many options for what could be used as the title.  I’m actually a little sad at the chosen title, as RRARV would have been a beauty (Rehabilitative Rest and Aggressive Re-Vegasing).  The email was sent by a long-time chronic health masturdebater.  Misadventures include, and are certainly not limited to, a long bout on the Atkins diet, with her kids sort of getting short-changed on carbs during that phase and losing their spunk and having their body temperatures drop (wait for it….), just like ADULTS do! Anyway, with the incorporation of Easter candy bingeing, Whiskey-spiked milkshakes, and the infamous (gasp!) Frosty – the whole fam damily is banging 98.6 and above and leaving their carborexic lethargy behind.  A little lively commentary by me… Read more »

Perfect Pregnancy

Posted

While RRARF (my program for increasing metabolism) is a new program not even two years old yet, I figured it was time to get something out there on the topic of pregnancy and fertility right away. The bottom line is that RRARF can be extremely helpful for not only helping couples achieve fertility, but making sure pregnancy, delivery, and the development of a very strong and healthy kid are all at their best. We’ve now seen that RRARF can restore missed periods with great consistency, and that these missed periods are often directly attributable to reduced metabolism (and the low progesterone production that accompanies it). Metabolism up, period returns. In most of the cases dealt with thus far, it really is that simple.  “Speaking of periods, I think mine have… Read more »
