I’ve only had luck with antihistamines and it doesn’t take me long to build up a tolerance. I usually take Benadryl or Gravol which is what is easily available around here. I’d like to try Periactin but more because of its antiserotonergic properties than it’s hypnotic properties.
I was once prescribed Zopiclone. Even two pills (15mg) would do nothing to put me to sleep. Does leave you feeling kind of drunk, though. It’s hard to balance and my legs felt very heavy. It also leaves a strong metallic taste in the mouth that’s quite nasty.
I once tried Melatonin and it kept me up with terrible gas and stomach pains. Not really gung-ho about trying it again.
I’ve found Valerian Root and “sleep hygiene” techniques to be completely ineffective as well.
Diet-wise, I’ve just come off all food restrictions except lactose and sleep is getting worse for me. Going to have to figure out why that is.
I haven’t had a good sleep where I felt refreshed upon waking since high-school. I always sleep long and deeply but never feel rested and I feel groggy and disoriented when I wake up and it persist for a few hours after waking. I just feel like I’m not being rested and healed and I’m gradually burning myself out. It’s making it impossible to concentrate at school or hold a job down. So I am royally screwed.
