This is happening to me every morning, and it takes me 1-2 hours to get back to sleep. Is it a sign that something is off? Is there anything that helps prevent it?

Yeap, me too. Only about two weeks into refeeding though. I hope this works itself out as I continue to eat myself into oblivion.

Bnowell724, according to Stone’s book _Diet Recovery 2_ this is a classic symptom of reduced metabolic rate and is most likely caused by excess adrenaline, which peaks from 2 – 4am, running through your system. Evidently the lower the metabolic rate, the higher the adrenaline, as metabolism and stress are in a constant tug-of-war. (Seems as though they have an indirect relationship, chemically speaking – when one goes up, the other goes down.) _Eat for Heat_ recommends using a sugar/salt mixture under the tongue (5:1, respectively). If you try this, keep it by your bedside such that you can access it in a convenient way. You want as little stimuli as possible during that wake up time.
