Will anxiety medication affect brain function?

Hi, I am dealing with extreme anxiety. I can’t sleep due to this. I feel scared and worried all the time. I have panic attacks too. I can’t stay alone in a place. One night, I was alone in my home. My parents went outside. Suddenly, a kind of fear started to arise in my mind. I tried to contact my parents. But, they didn’t attend the phone. I was frightened. My heart beat started to increase and my body has become frozen. I felt difficulty in breathing also. After this incident, I never stayed alone in my house. I am scared whether this situation will happen again. My parents are planning to take an appointment with a registered clinical psychologist in Toronto. But before undergoing the treatment, I would like to know whether my condition can be cured without medication. I don’t like oral medication for this. One of my friends told me that the anxiety medication will affect brain functions. Is it possible to treat this with any behavioral therapies? What about individual counseling? If anybody knows about this, please help me with your suggestions and replies.
