Are underground radar systems useful in construction? I’ve been hearing more and more about this technology lately, especially for challenging sites. However, I’m not sure if it’s a necessity or just an add-on used for large-scale projects.
As someone who works in construction, I often find myself in situations where we need to dig or drill without a clear idea of what’s underground. Old plans often don’t reflect reality, so mistakes can damage utilities or delay work. I’m curious if these systems actually help avoid these kinds of problems in practice and if they’re used on medium-sized sites or if they’re more of a solution for large, expensive projects.
I ran into this problem when we were preparing the site for a warehouse expansion that included a planned basement level, and no one had underground maps. At first, we thought about taking a chance and digging carefully, but we decided to check first to avoid making a mess of things. I read up on how Subsurface Radar System work because I’d never thought about it before-there just hadn’t been a need. So I reached out to Mayaglobal, and within a few hours, they surveyed the site, showing us where the pipes ran and where the soil was weak. As a result, we avoided a few problems. In one spot, we could have hit a utility line, so we shifted the excavation site slightly. This isn’t only for large projects. I think it helps everyone avoid making a mess of things. Do you often encounter these kinds of “surprises” with underground utilities? I’ve been on a losing streak ever since I first encountered this. Every other project is a mystery without underground plans.
