I started taking beef gelatin about 2 months ago. When I started, I would take about a half a tablespoon in my coffee a day. Shortly after I developed insomnia (I have struggled with insomnia for 25 years but for the past year it has been much better) and had read about a woman who took 3 tablespoons a day developed sleep problems and cut down to just a 1 T a day which seemed to resolve her sleep. So after I quit, I did sleep better, but knowing that it could have been a coincidence, I started using gelatin again – this time just a teaspoon a day and after a few weeks, started having insomnia again and also acne (again, something I’ve struggled with for a long time, can’t remember if my acne returned after the first time I started beef gelatin..). I have eliminated some other new supplements and once again, my sleep is better so wondering if anybody out there has had problems with beef gelatin. I would like to receive all the benefits other say they get with gelatin – like better skin elasticity, etc… but sacrificing sleep isn’t worth it. Thanks.
I have never had an issue with gelatin, but I have also never taken beef gelatin. I am not sure if this is helpful, but I love GoBIO organic gelatin. It’s porcine, so keep that in mind, but it might be worth trying.
