    Hey guys,
When I was at the store the other day, I saw something I’d never seen before: coconut sugar. It looked like regular, granular sugar but was brownish or grayish colored. I’m thinking that might be a great thing to bake with, or use on oatmeal, etc. If anyone has used it, please chime in.

I’m a big fan of coconut as a health food, so I was happy to see that in stores =)

The only problem with it it’s not that sweet so you have to use lots of it to get a sweet taste.

Yah I was wondering about that. Seems like it wouldn’t be that sweet. I also found out last night, after posting this, that making coconut sugar isn’t a sustainable industry. The trees have to be destroyed to produce it, so I’m not going to buy any. I love coconut and coconut oil and I don’t want to see that get more expensive or go away completely.

Bummer. I just bought some – guess I won’t be doing that again.

Haven’t opened the bag yet, so can’t comment on flavor or usability. I figured it’d be good on oatmeal. I saw it mentioned on a paleo blog somewhere.

Yah, I don’t know how it tastes, either, but I won’t risk coconut and coconut oil going away for it haha. Those are too important to me. I may look more into this because it was only one source I heard this from.

I love it (though I dont bake,so dont know how it turns out), I eat it straigth from the jar.
It’s not as strong caramelly tasting like Palm Sugar, which is also good.
Unfortunately it’s expensive but it contains lots of nutrients&amino acids.
