I am 30 weeks pregnant and have somewhat low iron (hemoglobin 120, ferritin 9). I am debating whether to use a natural iron supplement like floradix. I’ve used it before with no issues. I am feeling very tired, no energy and achey legs. Also, I do not accept blood transfusions so I am worried about excess bleeding at birth.

On the other hand I remember reading something (I think it was here) about how our iron levels are supposed to be low and it is unhealthy for them to be higher? Does anyone have research on this?

I would like to know more as well. Ray Peat writes about a correlation between supplemental iodine during pregnancy and childhood leukemia. So I never took any during this pregnancy (I’m 39 weeks) my hemoglobin was ok but I do seem to have some symptoms of anemia. I think it’s good to remember that low hemoglobin doesn’t always mean that it is iron deficiency. Could be b12 or copper. Do you know what your MCV was?

Though a ferritin of 9 is quite low…
