I live in Argentina and getting a hold of schmancy gelatin brands just isn’t gonna happen for me, but I would like to start supplementing with it. Could I supplement with any gelatin as long as it is made of collagen and still gain the health benefits?

In Argentina you should have easy access to some great grass-fed beef…. cook up your own bone broth. That will be full of all sorts of good gelatin as well as trace minerals. Bone broth is awesome stuff. Easy to make if you have a crock pot, too…

I don’t have a crockpot, they are pretty non-existent here and making bone broth takes too long for convenience. Don’t get me wrong, oxtail recipes are on our menu at least once a month, less often in the summer, and more often in the winter, but I think I would get sick of the taste of bone broth pretty quickly and I like the idea of instant gelatin to put in juice and smoothies, etc. I just want to know if just plain, non-flavored gelatin, that isn’t a fancy organic brand would be safe to take as a supplement.

    Don’t see why not!

I have a box of this stuff on the shelf: http://www.amazon.com/Knox-Gelatin-Unflavored-8-Ounce/dp/B007Y3HM5C

Not fancy, not organic… probably animal based.
Kraft/Nabisco makes it. I’m sure what ever you have available at the local grocery is pretty much the same stuff.

What if the directions to make gelatin says to dissolve in hot water? would I have to dissolve it first or could I just put it in a smoothie without first dissolving it?
