ParticipantI’m almost always hungry an hour or two after I eat breakfast. Today I added an extra piece of toast (usually I have one) but I was still hungry. My temperature is good and high (99.2 upon waking) so does this mean that my metabolism is fast and I’m burning through breakfast? I eat more during the day and less at night especially now that I’m spending a few weeks with my parents and siblings and they eat a later dinner. This has always been the normal rhythm of my hunger- dieting and otherwise.
Sometimes i wonder if my hunger is emotional and I’m stressed about something but I know that when I used to think too much about my hunger it just caused me to under eat. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this after certain meals and if that means our metabolisms are fast?

ParticipantI ate at a chinese buffet yesterday for lunch and was really full when we left. It probably wasn’t even 2 hours later at home and I was super hungry already. So I had a big plate of apple crisp with a little ice cream on top. I often will get hungry soon after break fast too and have always wondered what that was about.

ParticipantI’ve experienced this too. At 11a.m., no matter the size of my breakfast, I find my stomach growling. Kudos for @cristy for not second-thinking hunger and eating afterward. I used to get hungry after trips to buffets and wouldn’t hesitate to eat again. I guess it’s all about trusting your body no matter what.

ParticipantEat that food Sweetie! What’s happening is normal! We should be hungry after a night’s sleep when we are naturally fasting. Even if your hunger is emotional, just eat. Sugar and starch do have a calming effect, which is why we crave those foods when we’re stressed.

ParticipantWhat you’re talking about is Second Breakfast! Beloved by Bavarians and Hobbits alike.

2)
Aragorn: Gentlemen, we do not stop ’til nightfall.
Pippin: What about breakfast?
Aragorn: You’ve already had it.
Pippin: We’ve had one, yes. What about second breakfast?
[Aragorn turns and walks off in disgust]
Merry: I don’t think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn’t he?
Merry: I wouldn’t count on it.August 5, 2013 at 3:04 pm #10919wordstospeak
ParticipantJust watched the scene. The world is suddenly making sense to me … well as far as second breakfasts are involved. Just goes to show how mealtimes vary. Trust your gut.

ParticipantI experience this as well. I usually eat 2 breakfasts and still eat lunch at 11am. After that I kind of graze the rest of the day.

ParticipantMartin Berkhan wrote something about this on leangains a while back. I think post breakfast hunger may have something to do with some breakfast foods having a high glycemic index, coupled with high cortisol levels in the morning. Try adding some protein and/or fat to stabilize blood sugar levels.

ModeratorI was just joking with my wife this morning about how difficult it is to fast between breakfast and lunch. I just roll with it when I get hungry like that. I figure my body is telling me something.
