I seem to not get a lot of protein in my diet. I am not a huge meat fan and while I love fish I don’t have it much. I’m on the go a lot so I tend to snack more than anything. I do have black beans a couple times a week, and maybe some slices of deli meat everyday but is this sufficient protein? I was wondering if a lack of protein could cause someone to be more prone to exercise injuries? I have been getting injured very easily lately. Thanks

Also, I realize I there are other sources of protein besides meat.. I do have Greek yogurt, some peanut butter, etc. but is that enough?

If you are getting injured easily, then you should at least try eating more protein. When I eat a moderately high protein diet, I recover from injuries–from work-outs, small cuts, burns, etc.–MUCH more rapidly. It’s really pretty amazing how effective it is. I probably wouldn’t have believed it if it wasn’t my own experience.

I used to eat too little protein, in part because high-protein foods can be a little hard on my stomach and in the short term make me feel sluggish, but now I always base my meals around these foods. Increasing your protein intake can be difficult without meat, but the Greek yogurt you’re eating is great. You could also consider eggs, cottage cheese, and even protein powders. Nuts, beans, and grains add a little protein too, but only in comparison to sugars and fats.

If your only objection to meat is the flavor, then you might try adding just one piece of meat to your current diet. If prepared well, you might even find you start to like it–or even start to crave it!

Its not only adequate of amount of protein but als9mo the rigth kind of amino acids to recover faster.
If you dont luke meat or its too expensive, you migth try gelatin/broth?i find it keeps my joints smoothly and its protwinsparing so you dont have to e!t as much protein.
And for other sources, how about chicken, eggs, potato, sundates?

I don’t mind the taste of meat, I just don’t think to have it until I realized I haven’t had it in a few days or more (weird I know). I have been having some hamburger patties, sliced deli meat, and tuna the past couple of days to see how I feel. I’ll add in some boiled eggs too. I take glutamine for stomach issues and mental health, but it doesn’t seem to be helping with the injuries. It seems my muscles pull or strain much more easily now.

Gelatin? How do you eat that? Do you get it from other foods?

I make jello or gummies with gelatinpowder. Bone broths contain. Some gelatin as well, especially when the broth is made from connective tissue join5s.
Or you can eat gelatinous cuts of meat like lamb/beefshanks?

Also are you getting enough magnesium bc too low can also cause slow healing.

I love gelatin and make smoothies with it. You can add milk or juice and some fruit and then the gelatin and a sweetener if you like (or any other smoothie concoction you like) I use Great Lakes Gelatin, Collagen Hydrolysate and it dissolves in cold water/liquid and it’s amazing! I’ve also added gelatin to coconut flour pancakes and butternut squash flat bread. Delicious! I got those recipes from Lauren at http://empoweredsustenance.com/

@Saisrice Those recipes look good, have you made both of them?and how did they taste and. what did you eat them with?
Do you know if the eggs can be substituted for something? I love eggs but cant find a good source for eggs.

Also ive heard about gelatin sometimes being used in icecream making…
Ive tried to make eggless creamless icecream from goatmilk once with my. Icecream machine but it didnt turn out like icecream at all…no texture just one big frozen icecube…i wonder if gelatin migth be able to give the creamlike texture.
