Hi! I’m trying to figure out how people usually protect their data when browsing on public Wi-Fi and at the same time open websites that are blocked in some countries. I’m not very technical, so I’m looking for a simple browser-based solution that just works smoothly. Any advice from personal experience?

Hi! I installed Zoog VPN, and honestly it made everyday browsing much calmer. It’s a free VPN for Google Chrome that protects your browser traffic and helps unblock dozens of websites worldwide. I can surf the internet without worrying about my data, even on café Wi-Fi, and it feels like using a private browser. The setup is fast, the speed is decent, and for a free option it’s surprisingly reliable. I recommend him to all my friends, as I am very pleased with his work!

For simple browser-based protection: Opera browser has a genuinely free built-in VPN, just toggle it on in settings, no extension or signup needed. ProtonVPN’s free browser extension is another solid, no-logs option, I saw this one recommended often for exactly this kind of casual use.
Both cover your two goals: encrypting traffic on public WiFi and unblocking geo-restricted sites, since they change your apparent location too.
One caveat: browser extensions only protect what happens in that browser tab, not other apps on your device. If you’re doing anything sensitive (banking, etc.) on public WiFi, a full VPN app that encrypts your whole device is more thorough.
