Severe back pain: Will deep massage therapy helps?

Hey, my mom is suffering from severe back pain. Actually, it is pain to deal with. As if now, she is finding very difficult in standing, walking and even sitting. I have tried with usual massage for her. But the relief from the pain was just two to three day or a maximum of a week. Last day while googling I found something interesting that can reduce my mom’s back pain. It was a result of a study conducted in 2012. For ten days, 26 patients with chronic back pain were tested and it was seen that deep tissue massage was more effective than therapeutic massage. So I am planning to take my mom for deep tissue massage from a clinic in Yonge and Wellesley which offers massage therapy. Is there any side effect for this deep tissue massage therapy? Will it be covered under insurance? It will be nice if someone can share their experience before and after the massage therapy.
