Hi – I saw a new naturopath today, & I really liked him because he is really kind of middle of the road & didn’t go all crazy with his recommendations. I have IBS & based on my symptoms he said it’s likely that I have SIBO. He said the best way to get rid of it is eating a paleo diet, which I’m not going to do. I learned the hard way that cutting out entire food groups is not the way to go. So I’m wondering what I should do to treat it.

    What is SIBO?

Never mind, I looked it up. If it’s bacterial overgrowth, maybe probiotics?

Yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention he wants me to take probiotics in conjunction with a low carb paleo diet.

Well maybe you could include that part then.

This may sound random, and I never had IBS so can’t promise it would help, but I found aloe juice to be really amazing for digestion. It’s not super cheap, but nor is it very expensive, and you can have a small glass (like 2 oz) a few times a day. You’ll know within drinking the first bottle if it works for you or not.

(My one recommendation here is get the stuff with zero additives – I like the lily of the desert in the glass bottle. When I tried the same brand in a plastic bottle, I found it disgusting, and I think it’s because it has an added preservative.)

I take coconut oil capsules, high doses, for many reasons. One of which is its claimed “anti-bacterial/anti-viral” properties. It helps my digestion in general, and I have read it has been used for SIBO.
