Suggestions on eye surgery

Hey friends,
My father is in his early 50, and recently he faces some problems associated with vision. We consulted an ophthalmologist, and he recommended using glasses. But my father hate using glasses.
When discussed with one of my friends she suggest laser eye surgery which will be more effective.
But my father is confused whether it will bring any negative effects on him. Is there any one here who have an experience in laser eye surgery. I’m eagerly waiting for your valuable responses.
