ParticipantI’ve been eating the food for almost 3 months (the last month being more eat for heat style while watching fluid intake). My period has come back and my temperature is always good. Most days recently it’s in the 99s. T I know overall health is more important than weight, but the weight gain is bothering me and I thought I might not eat dessert or dessert like food as often. I’ve been enjoying eating ice cream, cookies a lot. I was thinking once a week but I don’t want to have a restrictive mindset about it. If I want some ice cream I’ll eat it. I don’t plan on restricting or cutting out any food groups. I still plan on eating french toast or pancakes if I desire, bread, pasta, pizza, fruits, veg, etc. but seeing if I may be satisfied with a little bit of fruit (dried or fresh) instead of a cookie or piece of candy. My main goal is to be healthy and to get pregnant and I still will eat enough food whenever I’m hungry. What do you think? Is this restrictive?

ParticipantHi there. I wouldn’t consciously limit anything you would otherwise eat. In other words, as I’m probable that you would tell me, restriction only leads to cravings. If you want the dessert, eat it. If you don’t want the dessert, don’t eat it. If you want the dessert, but think you’ve had too much and that to lose the weight that’s been bothering you, eat the dessert anyway. You’re heart is in the right place. You just seem to be frustrated by the weight. Totally understandable. I can really identify with your post right now, to be honest.
But skipping dessert may, in fact, increase your stress levels, and set you up to be more likely to gain than to lose weight. At any rate, don’t force yourself to do anything you don’t want to do. :) If fruit (dried or fresh) sounds good, grab a bowl. But consciously ‘limiting’ desserts sounds like restriction. However, you may probably have just gotten tired of the sweets, which is normal, and your taste buds may be looking for something different. Go with your gut. :D

ParticipantThanks, wordstospeak for taking the time to write back! I feel really happy that someone can identify with where I am. I don’t want to do anything restrictive and then have even more cravings at. Or do something that would cause any stress. Those are really good points. I just don’t want to have to think about this as much… maybe in a few years.
I don’t plan on doing anything I don’t want to do and that’s what I was telling myself yesterday. I was telling myself that I could eat dessert or get the ice cream man (I’m living at the beach) and so I got dessert for my daughter and I to share and had a bite. I’m not going to stress about it so much but also not think of cookies, pie, and ice cream as medicine as much as I was since my temps are really good. I’m not sure if I’m tired of the sweets (had some toast with cinnamon sugar this morning, yum!) but just thinking that I don’t need or crave desserts as much as before. If I crave it, I’ll eat it and I’m still eating sugar, starch, and salt at every meal. Those are great combos for me.
