I know this forum isn’t very active these days, but I’m hoping I might be able to get some assistance. My full story can be found on this thread:

    http://180degreehealth.com/180forums/topic/skinny-fatness-sexual-disfunction/#post-17537

Long story short, I had the overly frequent urination problem and my sex drive disappeared for many months. Also high cholesterol, low white blood cell count, binge eating disorder and mood swings. Couldn’t figure out the problem until I read four of Matt Stone’s books (Paleo Myths, Diet Recovery 1-2, Eat for Heat).

I’ve been able to resolve sex drive and urination problems by around 80-90% using the RRARF method. I’m about 6 weeks in, trying not to let the new weight gain depress or stress me out, but it’s very difficult since I have a body complex (as many of us do). Doing my best.

Biggest difficulty right now is sleep. I’ve had terrible insomnia over the last 3-4 weeks, only about 5-6 hours of good sleep/night then napping for another hour or two IF I’m lucky. I believe this is also because I quit smoking marijuana cold turkey, along with Xanax, which I was taking to restore nocturnal erections, when I thought the main cause was finasteride (hair-loss medication that can cause ED).

Does anyone have any suggestions to improve my sleep as I get through my Xanax and weed withdrawal? I know it’s not ideal to do all the re-feeding without extra sleep, but now I’m getting less than before. I’m rapidly regressing on the fitness front, getting more out of shape every day (worked hard to get where I am). Is it okay for me to do a little bit of intense training (push ups, pull ups, lunges and kettle bell swings), even though I’m behind on sleep? Could this help, or will it kill my metabolism?

It’s killing me that I’m getting out of shape, but I don’t want to lose my sex drive again because that was a nightmare.

Any input will be highly appreciated. Not sure where else to turn right now. My docs have been expensive and fairly useless.

    Thank you

I also experienced insomnia while on RRAF. Wanted to ask the same question here but apparently this forum is dead. As your insomnia improved over the time ?

    Hey SkinnyFat,

I’m in pretty much the same boat as you. If you went on Xanax then I assume you’re aware of the lasting effect that Finasteride has been shown to have on Allopregnanolone and therefore GABA levels. It may be that you can improve your health by increasing your metabolism/body temp but you may still be dependent on external help for GABA, especially GABA A.

Phenibut is a souped up version of GABA that crosses the blood brain barrier so it’s very powerful and very habit forming, like Xanax. You might be better off with just oral GABA – it doesn’t cross the BBB but several parts of the brain aren’t inside that barrier anyway so it can still do a decent job.

As for the idea of treating PFS using the metabolic model….I can only hope that this is possible! I guy called chilln goes into great detail on this subject:

Whether it could work I have no idea.
