We found a pretty nasty mold problem in the basement level of our clinic. A pipe in a tucked-away corner had been dripping for a while, and nobody paid much attention to it until someone moved a cabinet and found mold spreading across the wall behind it. We replaced the bad section of pipe, so the leak itself is taken care of, but the mold is really worked into the wall now and I don’t want staff trying to scrub it off and call it done. Who do you bring in for something like this?

Man, once it’s gotten behind furniture and into the wall, I wouldn’t let the building handyman attack it with bleach and a paint roller. In a clinic you really don’t want to guess how far it traveled while that pipe was leaking. I’d bring in an independent mold inspector or environmental hygienist first and have them check the wall cavity and the nearby area. Then you’ll know exactly what needs to come out before anyone starts repairing the room.

That hidden corner is what would bother me most, because you only found the patch you could finally see. There could easily be more behind the drywall or along the base of the wall where the leak was feeding it for weeks. I’d hand this over to a proper mold remediation service here: http://totalhomerescue.pro/mold-remediation . Have them start with the area behind the cabinet and around the old leak, then work outward from there. I wouldn’t close the wall back up until you know the affected section is actually clean and dry.
