ParticipantThanks Christinam. Yes I’ve tried colostrum in the past… Was totally amazing for about four month, felt totally over the chronic fatigue I’d had, but then as with everything else, all gains slowly reversed. I know people who it’s worked well for though. I’ve done most combinations of food groups in the past but not the one you mention… I have a problem with grains and starches generally but I guess with a strict regime some of that might change. Could you tell me the reference for the diet you describe? Where can I read about it? Thanks.

ParticipantYeah my mum has Candida really badly… So do my brothers. My guess is that our immune system doesn’t recognise it as an enemy. Every time I do something that boosts my immune system it only works for a little while before the yeast seems to catch up and adapt. Its depressing. I’ve done the carrot thing, though not on an empty stomach, so could try that. Probiotics don’t seem to work for serious gut imbalances… Some short term gains that then just die away.

ParticipantHi YarnJess, I’m bfeeding my 8 month old son too, and also only recently made the connection with low thyroid (TSH and T4 bloods all normal range, but I know from Ray Peat that’s totally meaningless). My BBT is around 36-36.3C (around the same as yours) though I’ve recently started seeing some improvements in the afternoon. I’m seeing some success by splitting up my meals a bit- having ‘2’ breakfasts (half an hour apart. Protein based followed by sugars-based) and a low-carb lunch followed an hour later by a bowl of fruit, cream or coconut cream, molasses, salt, gelatin and a few squares chocolate or a macaroon. The few times I have done this, I have noticed a much higher peak in temps and sustained for longer. I’ve only this week made the decision to go starch-less, as I wanted to see if it would help my Candida. Only a week in, but I’ve been interested to see the results on the thermometer.

ParticipantJust my 50 pence…. Someone else on here (JDubs??) mentioned that a really massive carb coma suggests digestive weakness, and I agree. If I eat fruit or something sweet and starchy on top of something heavy and savoury, it’s like culinary Kryptonite- I can feel like total crap for the following 3 or 4 hours- yawning, heavy fatigued limbs, bloated. It’s a horrible feeling, actually, like being poisoned. However I’m now experimenting eating more Peat-style- no starch at all, so low-carb dishes like eggs and celery root slices in coconut oil with salt or liver/fish/seafood and salad followed by- at least half an hour to an hour later- a big bowl of fruit, cream or coconut cream, with salt, gelatin, molasses, sometimes some chocolate or coconut macaroon. This raises my temps better I find, and is much better digested (currently 36.9 C, nice popped out vasculature in my hands, and no yawning…) I think this is interesting in the light of what Matt has said re carbs inducing yawning/fatigue as a result of bringing down stress hormones. Perhaps for some people (like myself) it’s also due to poor HCL production and subsequent fermentation in the stomach and gut.

ParticipantI wouldn’t have thought commercial chocolate icecream is going to contain much if any magnesium. I think it’s a myth that chocolate contains magnesium, as cocoa is notoriously high in phytates. It’s probably more due to the saturated fats/sugar in chocolate that makes it warming.

ParticipantThis is really interesting. I’m having another stab at raising body temp/metabolism by starting a Peat-ish protocol and taking an eighth of a dose of thyroid glandular (any more makes me act like a freak ;-)). This afternoon I’m radiating 37.1C like I never have before BUT (and it’s a big but) my tongue looks like it belongs to an end-stage AIDS patient (sorry if that sounds flippant but it bloody does!)- thick white coating.I also have tinea/ringworm blooms on my chest and underarms. I’ve had all these things in some measure for the last twenty years or so, but they are AWFUL at the moment. I’m especially anxious about the Candida because it has been steadily getting worse despite me ‘eating the food’ for a really long time now (about 18 months). I know some people such as Peat say it’s rare to have true Candida, but mine is real all right, and accompanied by several decades of immune suppression. I’m nursing my 8 month old son still and he has all the signs of it too, plus cold and clammy, low metabolic constitution. So for both our sakes I want to try and find a solution. But now he has a yeast rash and it gets worse when I eat dairy/sugar…Should I carry on and try and weather it???

ParticipantMy son is 8 months and hasn’t had a normal bowel movement since he was 3 months. I’ve a long history of SIBO, yeast infections, endocrine problems, and now strongly suspect I’ve been hypothyroid my whole life. My son is also exhibiting hypo symptoms/constitution- damp and clammy, cold hands and feet, doesn’t sweat, and doesn’t poo. He also has no arches on his feet (Broda Barnes). He went once a week for ages even when I was exc breastfeeding (no solids) and since solids it’s been horrendous, days and days of nothing but small hard rabbit pellets. Believe me my anxiety and guilt about the whole thing has been horrendous.
Anyway, we did the whole probiotics thing and saw no improvements- the doctor wanted me to put him on Lactulose sugar laxative every day.. NO way was I doing that. Anyway, then I started giving him some Natural Calm magnesium drink, but the citric acid kept burning his poor bottom. Now we’ve settled on a small dose of magnesium citrate powder and that seems to be working a treat. -
