I have a question for Christinam. Did you get your temp up before you started losing weight? I have been stuck at 97.7 for a year. I tried eating the food & having more sugar, but nothing changed. I thought Matt’s way wasn’t for me either, but I can’t do any kind of restrictive diet that makes me crave a food that isn’t allowed.

I have been exercising – walking, weights, fitness blender, etc & nothing. I don’t think anything will change till my temp comes up & it just won’t. And like a lot of you I can’t stand how I look & feel with this extra blubber. I feel like a big fat cow. I miss my size 4 clothes, vain, I know. I can’t lose the weight & I can’t even firm up what’s there. It is still a struggle for me to eat enough calories, even after a year of trying to do this. I don’t know how accurate it is, but I think I get around 1500 cal/day. I am wanting to get 2000. That is what I struggled with before. To get the calories in I looked for junk food, ice cream & chips, a spoonful of honey or peanut butter.

I didn’t think I had an eating disorder when I read Diet Rec 2, but I started thinking about the last diet I was on (lowfat, low cholesterol) & realized I took it to extreme. I was not thinking clearly at the time as my brother had a quadruple bypass surgery & hadn’t realized anything was wrong. It freaked me out so badly I was afraid to eat ANYTHING! I thought the next bite would kill me. But then I found WAPF. I know that can be extreme also depending on how far you want to take it, but it did help me get back to real food. I also gained all my weight back while on it. Since reading here I realized that diet probably did make me disordered, which means I am still not eating enough. Does that sound right to you? I really don’t want to gain more weight after all this (who does?) so after all this rambling I am getting back to the 1st paragraph. Stuck at low temp because I need to eat more & I won’t lose any weight until my temp normalizes?

Christinam, when you talk about junk food like pancakes do you mean frozen store bought pancakes or homemade? I make pancakes from scratch all the time and don’t feel like that is junky. I make a lot of homemade snacks like crackers and cookies and breakfast bars so it doesn’t have the pufas & other junk in it. So you see, I’m still trying to figure out where to go from here. It really wasn’t supposed to be this complicated, lol.

I missed out on the 99 cents by the time I saw that. Even $2.99 is not bad. I just wasn’t sure I wanted to buy another ebook. Thanks for simplifying it David. I am doing those things now – eliminating PUFAs, exercise, etc. Still not great sleep & I don’t know about daily calories. I am trying to concentrate on eating more carbs, sugar & less fat, but it’s hard because I really like the fats. Also I feel like I spent my whole life eating lowfat & I don’t went to go back there. I can’t get too bogged down in all this stuff, makes it too stressful for me. It’s just that after a year of trying to get myself straightened out I feel like it doesn’t matter what I do, nothing will change.

Well shoot! Another book to buy? I hate spending more money on stuff hoping it works when it never does. Maybe the fat set point is my problem. If anyone does try this please let us know if it works. Sorry, I’m having a bad fat belly day.

Well, thank you katezaar. I’m taking a break on the temps because I don’t want to obsess over it. For now I am working on exercise & a better mental attitude.

Piranha, When Matt first opened the forum he did participate. I guess we all thought he would continue. Since he hasn’t. I guess he is too busy with other stuff & doesn’t have time to stick with it.

Don’t feel bad, Blossom. You are doing better than I am with your temps. I have been doing this for a year. My morning temp is still 97.7 & I only get up to low 98’s after eating, but it comes right back down shortly after. I don’t bother taking my temp anymore, at least for now. I am an old person so I may never get there. I think you will be fine when you can get decent sleep.

My hands seem to stay cold no matter what I eat or how much. My pee is fine but my temp stays on the low side and still have cold hands & feet. Can’t figure it out.

Thanks David. I have been having trouble figuring out how much exercise is enough & not overdoing. Man, I feel like I’ve gone down a rabbit hole since I started trying to recover metabolism & don’t know where I am anymore. By the way I also am glad you are back here & sorry about your wife’s ankle. Sounds like she is on the way to recovery already.

captainchode, I have been doing this for a year. After the 1st 2 months my temp went up from 96.7 to 97.7, & that is where I still am today. Also, I had lost a ton of weight on a diet I was on about 7 or 8 yrs ago. I was too thin but I thought I looked good. Then I switched to a whole food whole fat diet (WAPF) I started slowly gaining weight even though I was eating clean & exercising regularly. I didn’t know why.

I went on a low carb diet but that had no affect, couldn’t lose it. At that point I didn’t need to lose it, but I was worried that I would gain all of it back & not be able to control it. By the time I started reading Matt’s blog about low metabolism I figured that was my problem. I decided to try this approach since I was already gaining the weight. I haven’t lost any weight, I am uncomfortable with my size & I still can’t get higher temps. That’s why I made that comment about not being able to do it either. I am still trying to figure it out. I am going to check out that link Tucker sent.

Hey blurg, I’ve been thinking about eating more fruit. I also can’t get my temps up. I found that when I tried to eat more carbs/sugar & less fat, I craved the fat. I don’t know what my percentage of carbs/protein/fats is but I feel that something is off. I have decided to eat more fruit because I find that I am craving it. Just not sure how to get more calories from that. I don’t want to cook it with sugar, just want it fresh.

bennyha, I am not comfortable with my weight gain either. I get depressed just thinking about summer because I have nothing to wear. It would be nice to start seeing some signs of improvement.

How much are you drinking? Be sure you drink only when thirsty & try to sip rather than gulp it down. That should help with your pee issues. As for hunger, you are really just starting on this. Since appetite is low try to up the amount of food gradually. To tell the truth I still don’t think I am getting enough calories in & I have been doing this for a year. Don’t you love when someone gives you advice Who can’t do it either? LOL.

Hey, I don’t sweat either. I used to go to the gym with my hubby. When we were done he was drenched in sweat. Not me. I was a little warm but no sweat. I didn’t understand it until I started reading Matt’s books. Not sweating is another symptom of low metabolism. I can’t get my temp up & I have been working at this for a long time. I still have cold hands too. It seems the warming foods don’t work anymore.

You have been doing this for 2 months? Give yourself more time. I have been at this for a year & still stuck. Hopefully it won’t take you as long to see some improvement.

I started looking at them yesterday & tried some out to see where I’m at. When I finished I felt a little nauseous so I don’t know if I overdid it or the exercise did what it was supposed to. It would probably be good for me to do this with no expectations of losing weight. As Piranha said in another thread I may never lose the weight & need to accept myself no matter what. I’m not there yet.

Yep, I am consulting with Matt. I have talked with him twice. First time he suggested I up the carbs & sugar. Second time he suggested a thyoid supplement. Seems I can’t do it by food alone. I’m not on a thyroid supp right now since i don’t know what to take. I forgot to tell him I was on one last fall, recommended by my holistic dr. I couldn’t tell if it was helping. She had me on some other things as well & I don’t know if any of it helped.

As for exercise I have been wondering what the best thing would be. I don’t belong to a gym & don’t want to so it has to be something I can do at home. I have a tape called The Firm which I have done off & on for years. I have weights to go with it from 3 lbs-7 lbs. Unfortunately I never lost weight doing this tape & when I did the whole tape it wore me out. From what I’ve read on Matt’s blog it isn’t the most effective way to lose weight. I thought it was good for the weights though. Since you mentioned HIIT I looked it up. I am so out of shape I’m not sure I can do it. I would really have to find a way to motivate myself to get through it. As I mentioned on another thread on here I am having a very hard time getting into a rhythm for exercise. I also have a belly dance tape I like to do, but that probably won’t do it either.

Let’s see, what else? Oh the sleep. It is much better than it was, but still not sleeping through the night. I am taking magnesium now which is supposed to have lots of benefits, sleeping better is one of them so we’ll see. I also read that it can help raise body temp. I have read about earthing, very interesting. Last summer I went outside walked around barefoot on the grass & sat outside to read but it didn’t have any noticeable affect. There are so many things out there that help a lot of people but all the things I’ve tried don’t do anything for me. I think my best bet is eating mostly clean, satisfying food, finding the right form of exercise & possibly a supplement & trying not to stress about any of it. In my case, easier said than done, lol. Anyway Human Torch, thanks for input. And good luck Gischanging.
