Hey Matt, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the “Raw Til 4 Diet” which is the diet now embraced by the infamous youtubers Freelee and Durianrider. I’ve seen your hilarious spoof videos and read your blog that discusses 80/10/10, so I realize you don’t take them seriously, but I’m interested in your take on this version of low fat veganism or an omniverous, low fat, high carbohydrate diet. Do you this type of diet is more balanced than low fat raw vegan? Thanks.
I think raw Til 4 is a big improvement in sustainability and practicality compared to the old 30BAD approach, and I think cooked food and starches (which are higher in protein than fruits typically) is a great addition to a diet that often can’t deliver the elements needed for proper maintenance of lean tissues. I think it’s a big step up, and glad to see that the world’s biggest carb advocates are getting a grip on reality and thinking in a more mature fashion. For those that haven’t taken their advice too seriously, but have learned that carbs are amazingly powerful fuel for athletes and can even be a part of a diet for long-term weight loss and maintenance, I think Freelea and Durianrider have provided a great service. With a little more protein and resistance exercise, their bodies may even look like they belong to adults one day, lol.
Oh, and for what it’s worth, I think Chris Randall will be the face and voice of that movement in the future. He’s the perfect breath of fresh air for a movement littered with lunatics and propagandists. He’s even gaining muscle on a low-fat vegan diet.
