Just a quick video I filmed a while back laying out the basics for those searching around the internet, wading through all kinds of quacky and wacky ineffective dogma, and looking for some of the most basic and effective information on how to insure a healthy pregnancy. While each case is highly specific, the simple information laid out in how to RAISE YOUR METABOLISM,?makes for an excellent pre-pregnancy diet and lifestyle plan – not just for those struggling to get pregnant, but for those who want to insure that mom and dad have the most outstanding metabolic health they can obtain before forging a fresh lil’ zygote. Some solutions are very complex, but in a world awash in?anorexic behavior in the name of health?(45% of Americans report being on a diet on any given day), some solutions are very, very, VERY simple. Eat The Food!
Looked like you were about to throw down on some freestyle or maybe an Ali G imperso. Good info anyway brother.
Hey, Matt. I have some links for you to support the efficacy of RRARFing for overcoming infertility and hypothalamic amenorrhea from eating disorders and chronic dieting.

I'm not looking forward to the size I'll end up in my next pregnancy, as I doubt I'll have lost the extra body fat I've recently gained by then.
Matt! Opinion… Prenatal vitamins. Yes or no?
what about evening primrose oil to balance hormones? It's used for PMS symtoms such as tender breasts, which are said to be a sign of estrogen dominance.
I'm not looking to get pregnant, though loved your delivery on this. Very level headed.
most level-headed: the emphasis that fertility is integral to–and a symptom of–health in general.
Thanks for keeping it so simple
Fuzzy Matty I like it!
Jane: Evening primrose is great but it is a PUFA. I used to take it but stopped due to that fact.
Wish I knew you when I was trying to keep a good pregnancy Matt, lost three before the magic of Sam.
xoxoxo
your other mother
Oooh… yeah. I love talking about pregnancy and nutrition.
On a related note, I'm friends with some midwives, and they say that women who are vegan give "birth" to very small, unhealthy placentas.
Chew on that, Natalie Portman.
right on matt. i appreciate the way you can craft a story about our physiological processes; that makes it much easier to keep track of what could be just random hormones floating about doing stuff.
Nice Post!
It sort of got me thinking about fats and hormone production. I remember hearing a lot about how you need to eat fat for healthy hormone production. I get why we need cholesterol for it…but do any of the other fats have anything to do with hormones? I couldn't find anything on it…Thanks!
Hey did I hear Matt say, ummm, "ex-girlfriend" in the call/interview with J & J Rubin?
Does that mean Mr. Stone is available? ::: bashful smile :::
Matt
2 little questions,,,,
what are you're thoughts on the 40-50 grams of fructose a day and after that it gets stored as fat ??is it true ??? sine sucrose is half fructose will it make the same effect??
and what do u now think about caffeine??
thanks ;=)
Seriously Matt! The new look is getting our hormones riled up :-D
great post. My diet has really helped with the hormone balance even though I'm vegetarian and have been relying mainly on carbs, full fat dairy, orange juice and some ice cream these days.
Matt, man, you should totally read this. First read the discussion at the end between Don and Stephan: "http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/2010/02/corn-oil-and-cancer-reality-strikes.html" Second, this one: "http://donmatesz.blogspot.com/2010/03/paleo-diet-basics-why-i-eat-walnuts.html"
Now, what do you think, ah? Hahaha, love this stuff… Hope I could get some more info on these !Kung and their mongongo nuts. Gotta send Peat an e-mail.
thanks grass fed momma
does anyone have experience of lengthening the follicular phase i.e. making ovulation a bit later? I ovulate on day 11 which may be ok but would prefer a little later and i read early ovulation is a sign of depleting ovarian reserve
Just looked at that comment thread at Whole health source, Interesting that feeding pigs soybean oil together with sugar (molasses) resulted in way higher omega-6 concentration than feeding soybean oil with corn and soymeal (assuming the amount of oil was the same), especially since feeding sugar with just soy meal (very low fat) resulted in lower omega-6 than corn + soymeal. Maybe there really is some kind of sinister synergy between sugar and PUFAS that can totally reverse whether sugar will be a positive or negative influence on health. Are there any good studies that directly relate the bodys omega-6 concentration with various health indicators?
Anyway, I just stepped up the sugar thing a notch and added a pint of Haagen Dazs vanilla to my evening meal yesterday. Improved sleep and had greatly lessened need to urinate during the night, but then I woke up this morning with a burning throat, achy teeth (acid reflux?), and worsened nasal congestion…
Looking good Matt ! But then as you have the same hair/beard style as me, it doesn't really surprise me ;)
Martin V.
Dear Matt,
please grow a mustache.
Thanks.
i dont have speakers…. is there a post in writing available..
i had my hopes up for leptin treatment like a month ago to cure the HA, and i lived to far away for it. broke my heart :( but i am 100% confident leptin is the answer to my fertility problems. no amount of food in any content will fix hypolepitemia
Mal,
Foresight preconception is a UK charity who help parents concieve and reduce risk of miscarriage and birth defects.
They address nutrient deficiencies and heavy metal overload through hair mineral analysis. Although they are in UK they help people overseas via post and email.

What is HA?

I just read that Jimmy Moore's wife is having treatment for embryo adoption, but that her procedures has been delayed because of her high oestrogen levels. It made me really sad for her and for them, because they seem like such nice people.
However, even though she is thin, Jimmy seems to have Christina on the low carb bandwagon and it doesn't seem to be helping her at all. I'd love if she could eat MORE good carbs and less PUFAs. However she always says she is addicted to junk food. I think that’s because her diet is full of PUFAs etc.
I just wanted to recommend the blueribbonbaby.org website. It has been revamped since I followed it 6 years ago but I had a lot of success with it – 2 easy trouble free pregnancies with healthy babies. It is easy to follow and not too obsessional. It is all about good old fashioned whole foods and eating enough! I also think supplementing with magnesium is important – I did.
Not to be mean or anything but Jimmy's wife is not what I would call 'thin'. Just saying. I wish them all the best and it is possible that low carb is not her problem, some people just cannot get pregnant no matter their eating lifestyles IMO.
Grassfed momma – She used to be thin anyway. Has she gained weight recently or something?
um, well, I guess compared to Jimmy she is thinner than him.. but she looks a tad chunky to me. Not obese by any means. I know that hormones can really mess your body up so maybe that is what has gone on with her.
I hope they are successful!
Dear Matt
Please grow a zz top beard and leave some food bits in it. That way we can an archeological dig on it and see what your diet is comprised of.
:-)
@Jane
I conceived my Sam with an ovulation test machine..( and my husband of course ) and guess when I ovulated, yeah, day 7. I was 41 at the time and went meno at 47. So yeah, on the decline for sure.
Holy Lord grassfed mama that was the funniest comment I've read in a while. Only my beard will reveal the true secrets of what I eat.
Unfortunately, I don't grow a particularly thick moustache or beard. Trust me I've tried. But staches look more hilarious when they are thin anyway, so it's all good. I once had a moustache for Halloween and put on denim shorts, a Nascar shirt with the sleeves cut off, a KTM racing hat, a hockey puck in my back pocket to look like a can o' dip, and shoved some coffee grounds into my bottom lip (faux tobaccey). I labeled the costume, "a Bush voter." Yeah, I'm that awesome.
Secret Admirer-
Yeah, no girlfriend for a while here, but you'll have to hurry because I've recently given in to a girl that's been stalking me for months. If you can out-stalk her I will declare you the winner and we will live happily ever after.
Prenatal vitamins – No
Primrose – probably not
PUFA and sugar-
This is why Barry Sears, despite breaking the douche-o-meter, is kind of a badass. He's been talking about how insulin from excessive carbohdyrate consumption is the trigger for PUFA storage since the 90's.
But do you cut out the sugar and the PUFA? Well, you can, but I don't think a person can ever reach their optimal energy levels, physical performance, etc. on a zero-sugar or low-carb diet. That's why PUFA is more or less the only major provision left in the high-everything diet.
OK, this sh*t is driving me crazy. I just cannot get a definitive answer about whether or not to take prenatal supps. You'll forgive me for being especially orthorexic when it comes to growing a little one. I don't trust mainstream medical advice or the midwife necessarily, but even in the alternative nutrition world, authors (all men, I might add) don't agree. I just posted about this at The Healthy Skeptic: Jaminet says any supplemental vitamin A, even in FCLO, is dangerous and so is folic acid. Masterjohn says 5,000IUs should be sufficient. I eat the egg yolks and the greens and the bone broth and the liver and the fish, etc. but how can I be sure that's enough? A pill at least gives you some reassurance, but if it means you're overdosing then it suddenly because risky to take!
There is one woman, that being Sally Fallon, who tells us to eat the fertility foods plus gallons of raw dairy a day. That's great for keeping her farmers in business, but it seems a little extreme.
And don't even get me started on Gestational Diabetes and sugar/carbs…
…end rant…
In this article, Chris Masterjohn recommends 20,000-25,000 IU of vitamin A during pregnancy.
Vitamins for Fetal Development: Conception to Birth
http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/1380-vitamins-for-fetal-development-conception-to-birth.html#rda
Foresight Preconception, who claim they have virtually no birth defects recommend 2,500. Although they say that a little more is probably safe, they say that since they've had no problems in 30 years with 2,500 then they wouldn't increase the recommended dose.
Since the FCLO also contains vitamin D and DHA, would you need to find that from another source if you stopped it?
Holy Mustache Lord Stone, I am so pleased that I made you chuckle and perhaps spit out your gelato. :)
You know you could probably muster a John Water's style 'stache. Maybe just grow it, do a video, then shave before your gal pal sees it. :)
Personally, I think a Tom Selleck model would be so Village People 70's cool. You could dress like the construction worker guy.
BTW, your costume sounds epic hee hee. Eric Callahan would be proud.

deb da hag
Matt,
Well, I'm not the stalker type. Real men tend to like that in a lady. Also, I have a very healthy sex drive and they seem to like that too. And, um, you would be the winner and I the winnee, if you were to get so lucky :)
Kidding aside, who says I was looking to "live happily ever after" with you? I just wanted to use you for sex :D
Deb,
I have to agree, that beard comment was funny as hell! I really did laugh out loud. Very funny :)
Thanks SA! I try to insert some silliness up in this sometimes serious place. Btw I really hope you are a girl and not Bruce/Ian or O A W . That would be creepy. ;-/
Xo deb
I'm a lady :)
You should've warned us earlier that this was a fertility diet too… I'm unexpectedly pregnant and we were being as careful as we ever were for the last 10 years, I must just be hyper-fertile from a year of eating the food.
congratulations!
I know this is a year-old post, but I had to leave my two cents. I SO wish I’d discovered this site before I’d gotten pregnant (I’m 6 mos along). Thanks to seeing your video from the 2012 WAPF talk you did, I’ve been nosing around your site a bit. Whenever I want to get pregnant, I know I have to chow down and put on a good ten pounds – then it’s a right-away deal (I’m on #3). I would love to pick your brain on a million things (particularly how to recover properly after childbirth and post-partum when I’ll get no sleep for months and such), but I’ll try to just read around and see what I can find out here.
