Metabolic Typing

From what I can tell there are 5 basic metabolic types.1) Excellent2) Mediocre3) Poor4) Heinous5) PatheticThe Pathetic metabolism is marked by tremendous weakness and constant cold body temperature. Eating anything of sustenance causes bloat. Bouts of charcoal constipation interspersed with diarrhea is the digestive function of the pathetic metabolic type at best. Allergies to everything except...

Nutrient Bombardment

I’ve had a little bit of a thing going lately with eating the most nutritious food that I can get my hands on.  This was one of the first attitudes that I ever developed while attempting to improve my health through diet long, long ago.  Only problem was that back then I was primarily a vegetarian.  I was missing out on some very important nutrients that put a nutritious...

Vitamin D

Vitamin D, as the great Charles De Marr might’ve put it, is ‘the hottest thing since sunburn! (Line at 7:05 mark in THIS VIDEO).  Mercola’s talking about it. Nora Gedgaudas is talking about it. Al Sears is freaking out about it. Even Joel Fuhrman is talking about it (at the expense of completely negating his vitamin D-less dietary recommendations). Everywhere I turn...

Larkburger

I recently ate the best burger I’ve had so far in this lifetime.  Check out the full review at:http://180kitchen.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/larkburger/

The 1909 American Diet

I’ve done more book-throwing this week than any week prior. First, there was a little post-alcohol and refined sugar crash that involved an argument and me throwing, not in any particular direction or with malicious intent toward the author ? a copy of Julian Whitaker’s Reversing Diabetes. The book wasn’t the worst I’ve ever read, but after hearing all this miraculous...

Not an Acai and Soymilk Smoothie

Let’s see, should we…Eat this for health…Or an Acai and Soymilk smoothie?  See the latest 180 Kitchen concoction…http://180kitchen.wordpress.com/2009/11/30/bacon-wrapped-tenderloin/

The China Study Explained

The China Study is considered to be one of the best and most thorough epidemiological studies on human health ever conducted. The New York Times, in typical absurdly idiotic fashion (like when they told us all about the WMD’s to help create a national panic that led to ?Iraqi Freedom?), calls The China Study ‘the Grand-Prix? of nutrition/health studies. It was thorough no doubt. Way...

Addiction Article

Hey amigos.  Just wanted to let the 180 faithful know that a lengthy article of mine on the topic of addiction was recently posted at another blog.  Please check it out.  There are some valuable lessons for everyone there, as addiction is something that effects us all in some way or another. ...

180 Kitchen!

I’ve got a new blog set up and it’s called 180 Kitchen!  It’s dedicated 100% to preparing healthy food 180-style.  I’ve got photos, I’ve got imbedded videos, I’ll be answering your food questions, and otherwise hooking my peeps up with divine grub.  Check out my first real...

Canadian Swine Flu Video

I’ve gotta give it up to Merc Daddy for posting this to his newsletter.  This is truly a solid video.  Top notch.  180 fully endorses it.

Vegan Aftermath

My experiences after going on a two-week vegan escapade couldn’t be more reaffirming of the general conclusions that I’ve come to over my several years of study. It’s certainly worth sharing and pondering now that I’ve had some time to let the whole experience digest.Although I certainly enjoyed stirring things up in the low-carb community, pointing out many of the ways...

Swine Flew

And so it is revealed, my girlfriend’s very clever Halloween costume idea ? Swine Flew. No, you won’t catch me getting vaccinated. Sleep well, eat well, spend some time on your feet out in the sun ? and you’ve got little to worry about. Then you can make fun of the paranoid mask-wearers and H1N1 vaccine-beggars  and the Pepsi-guzzling chip eaters that actually get this...

FUDA Conclusions

Nice work to those who voted on Monday’s post, It’s Over! You guys are sharp cookies. The vast majority of you chose the correct answer on both of the polls.  For starters, the meal that sent my glucose levels the highest was not the uber high-carb meal in which I ate all of it without fat or meat. It was, indeed, the meal which combined it all and also contained refined sugar...

It’s Over!!!

The experimental diet is over! F.U. FUDA!For those interested, here are the fasting readings taken on an extremely high-carb/low-fat vegan diet vs. a low-carb/high-fat carnivorous diet. The first numbers were taken after pigging out on what were about to become forbidden foods. For example, I consumed an entire pint of heavy cream right before bed the night before the diet began. Aurora ate...

FUDA Day 13

I can’t believe this FUDA diet is almost over. I’m almost sad, but I’m sure a buttload of pizza tomorrow night will help me get over it. That’s right, pizza has been chosen as the mutual mixed-meal postprandial competition between Sunshine the carbophiliac and Aurora the carbophobe. In English, Aurora and I are going to eat pizza, a food with balanced levels of animal...

FUDA Day 11

?Sigh? says Matt Stone as he listens to an interview between Gary Taubes and Jimmy Moore on filing a class-action lawsuit on the government?Yeah, I was just listening to a Taubes interview done by Jimmy Moore of ?Livin? la Vida Low Carb? lore. It was painful. It’s like, I love Gary Taubes so much. He makes the most sound and sophisticated arguments challenging the weight loss mantra of the...

FUDA Day 10

Both the girlfriend and I had some slight deviations in our diets yesterday, and surprise, surprise, our fasting glucose levels were both higher this morning.  I will also point out that Aurora has been exercising like a fiend the last couple of days, which certainly can’t help much either.  That adrenaline is triggering some glycogen release. My deviations included having some...

FUDA Day 8

Well folks, not much exciting happening here except of course that both diets are proving to be useful at dropping glucose levels. Our fasting glucose levels this morning were 80 and 82 mg/dl ? both in the perfect range. My levels are remarkably consistent, having busted out a 79 or 80 for 5 straight days now. We are both feeling pretty good too. My skin is ridiculous, and my teeth feel great...

FUDA Day 7

Alright,so blood sugar control is still excellent. On day 6 I posted a fasting glucose of 79 and this morning an 80. This, in comparison with the GF’s 89 and 85 on ultra low-carb. This puts me right in the middle of the ?perfect? range according to the work of Emanuel Cheraskin on dental health, who discovered that 75 to 85 mg/dl was the magic range. Once again, to quote Nancy Appleton:...

FUDA Day 5

We have a winner. This dietary experiment will forever be known as the FUDA Diet. ?F.U. Dr. Atkins! Kinda harsh treatment for a dead guy, but political correctness isn’t exactly the theme here. Whaddya expect from a guy holding a pig’s head that shares the same first and last name with one of the co-creators of South Park? ?Page realized that the (dental) plaque, decay, and...
