Ha, ha, ha! Yes! Gina Kolata has appeared on the Colbert Report. It also appears that Colbert and I have the same sense of humor – alluding to Pat Robertson’s holy weight loss products and singing, “Do you like Gina Kolata?” Man that is weird.

LOVE COLBERT!
Anyway, I just read the Oct. Ezine, but I continue to get confused. I get that the #1 strategy to improve health is to completely eliminate sugar. But, what is under the umbrella of sugar? Is white flour sugar? Is fruit sugar? Are whole grains sugar?
P.S. is milk sugar?
but Matt I thought your own 180 degree health journey has now allowed you to eat whole watermelons and 4 peaches every single day, along with your regular foods such as half n half and pork. Am I getting something wrong?
Refined white sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, and crystalline fructose still appear to be the primary culprits. White flour and refined grains are certainly not health foods either for a person's diet to be constructed upon either.
Refined fructose, in particular, does have a uniquely fattening property, triggers insulin resistance, causes overeating without a corresponding rise in metabolism, and so on.
Then again, artificial sweeteners appear to do this as well. It could be that something is triggered in the brain in response to sweet tastes – such as the release of opiates.
I eat some fruit, but not every day. I eat fruit a couple times per week if I desire it. I do not think fruit is an unhealthy food. Not at all. But many don't tolerate it well until their health/glucose tolerance improves. A lot of people have candida complications and cravings triggered by fruit too. That was my personal problem in the past – both related to glucose tolerance.
